Parents – what kind of summer athlete is your child? And how do you “push” each one?
There are three types of summer athlete: “The Champion”, “The Player”, or “The Recreational Athlete”. You have to match your parenting style with the type that your children are.
With all types, it is the athlete that sets the goals, and it is our job as parents to help support those goals without added pressure. The biggest challenge may be when the “Recreational Athlete” has “Champion” goals. This creates an opportunity to teach that excellence is earned, and to help our children decide if the desired outcome is worth the investment.
